INDIA R&D 2009
Geospatial Technologies for Utilities & Infrastructure

November 20-21 , 2009
Federation House, New Delhi

Inauguration by Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon’ble Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences

Geospatial applications are potent tools in the hands of decision makers, government, corporate or ordinary citizen. It empowers them to create interactive queries, construct maps, analyze information vis-à-vis its spatial attributes and use results of all these operations for easy decision-making.

Resource planning, of nation as well as business, is now unthinkable without using geospatial information. The prospects of GIS applications for use in utilities sector has brightened with Government of India approving a central sector scheme for the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP).

Fast track developments are taking place in the Geospatial field and it has become important for India to strategize Geospatial R&D and human resource capacity building. On account of its commercial appeal for such wide range of applications as well as possibility of misuse in the wake of increasing security threat, it has become very essential to formulate policy on sharing of geospatial information as well.

Through this Conference, FICCI aims to create a common platform for insight, mutual dialogue and networking & collaborations amongst stakeholders for developing appropriate Policies & regulatory framework, applications and best practices of Geospatial technologies in Utilities Sphere.
